CATBALOGAN CITY — Still a month to go for the August 2021 Samar Day fete, the Provincial Government of Samar here, today opened up, the newly facelifted “Imelda Park” with Malacañang spox Harry Roque as main guest.
From colored bricks on the pavements, and to the lightings, the new “Imelda Park” now also showcases several features that will fit in for both adults and children.
The park now houses a new children’s play area, with colorful play pen and tunnel slides, swings, see-saws, merry-go-rounds, and more.
While adjacent to the Children’s Play area is a giant chess board for adults.
A space with a mini-stage was also built, for Zumba enthusiasts and can be used for small group gatherings as well, and adjacent to it, is an open Gym, with basic exercising equipment.
Governor Michael Tan last year envisioned to rehabilitate the park, aligned to the thrust of Spark Samar campaign of the provincial government.
The new Imelda Park is already a host to Samar’s local products via a showroom at the former Gazebo structure, and the newly constructed Food spark Samar, will feature local menu and cuisines, which is also being promoted by the provincial government thru its Secret Kitchens of Samar campaign.
Gov. Tan informed that the Imelda Park will be jointly managed by the Provincial Engineering Office, and the Samar Provincial Tourism Office.
The business, economic and promotional side will be handled by the tourism office, while the maintenance and repairs, will be up to the engineering department according to the governor.
A covered path walks from the entrance and up to the children’s play area, which is located at the end of the bock, was also built with touches of modern design.
Tables with benches suited for groups, were also made available along the covered path walks, and an open space under the old trees was retained, but the pavements were adorned with red bricks.
On top of all the new features of the park, is the landscaped entrance, with several round white lights, and the Spark Samar 3D logo. (Rommel L. Rutor/SWE)
