CATBALOGAN CITY — In an effort to avert more infections, and prevent Covid-19 from spreading from two newly identified areas of concerns in the city — the City Government here yesterday (July 4) placed on ECQ status or granular lockdown, the entire Samar Provincial Jail and the city’s Police Headquarters.
Also placed on ECQ status is Barangay Iguid in the northern part of the City.
Mayor Dexter Uy, in his Executive Order # 07-001 issued yesterday, stipulated that the recent Laboratory Results released by the EVRCTC spiked up the number of Covid-19 infections in said areas, thus appropriate measures are needed to be implemented.
Based on the data obtained from the City Health Office here, at least 19 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) at Samar Provincial Jail are infected with Covid-19 virus.
The City Police Headquarters also recorded 4 Covid-19 active cases, and another one from City Law Enforcement Auxiliary Unit (CLEAU).
On the other hand, Barangay Iguid registered 14 active cases, and 9 of which were picked up for Facility Isolation, and 5 were allowed for Home Quarantine subject to the monitoring of the local BHERTs.
All of those inside the Samar Provincial Jail, including the active cases at the City Police Station are Asymptomatic, according to the City Health Office.
In a relayed statement, the active cases at the provincial jail were in isolation in the same facility, according to City Health Office chief Dra. Gerarda Tizon, while the policemen at the City PNP Station were also housed in their own Isolation Area inside the Police Compound.
As a result of the surge of new cases, the local Contact Tracing Unit here were able to trace about 76 people in Poblacion 3 alone, where the Police Station is located, and another 41 in Barangay Iguid — the number though according to Dra. Tizon may still go up, considering that contact tracing still is on-going.
According to Mayor Dexter Uy, the ECQ Status in said areas will remain, until the figures go down, in which a new Executive Order will be issued subsequently. (Rommel L Rutor)
