Thousands of supporters of presidential aspirant, former senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and his running-mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte attended their political rallies in Borongan City and here on November 30.

The Marcos-Duterte team, also known as ‘Uniteam,’ is the first major presidential and vice presidential candidates to visit the region in connection to next year’s presidential elections.

Their visit to the region marked a motorcade to the iconic San Juanico Bridge which connects the Leyte and Samar Islands with their thousands of supporters joining them.

According to Marcos, their visit to the bridge, constructed during the administration of his father, President Ferdinand Marcos, is their way of showing the unity among the Filipino people which is now divided due to deep politics.

Once elected, the presidential aspirant declared, he will forged unity among the Filipinos especially now that the country continue to grapple the pandemic caused by coronavirus disease which resulted not only in deaths but loss to employment to millions of Filipinos.

In his speech during their rally here, witnessed by more than 5,000 of their supporters, Marcos said that he is the luckiest among all the presidential contenders for having Duterte as his running-mate.

“Siguro nakikita naman ninyo na sa lahat ng presidential contenders sino ang pinakasuwerte at nakakuha ng pinaka-magaling,pinaka-mahusay at pinaka-sikat na vice president kay Mayor Sara Inday Duterte,” he said to the approval of the huge crowd mostly clad in colored red T-shirts, the political color of Marcos who is leading surveys among presidential contenders.

Duterte, for her part, said that she chose to run as vice president under Marcos because she has all the political experiences the Filipinos are looking for.

Part of her speech, the presidential daughter has alluded that Marcos could have been the country’s Vice President only that he was “cheated.”

“ Sa darating na eleksiyon, hindi na tayo papayag na nakawin,” she said as she urged the public to vote them as a tandem for her to work well as a vice president.

Joining them were Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
