BORONGAN CITY — Arteche town in Eastern Samar topped the number of vaccinees in the recent 2021 Bayanihan Bakunahan held on November 29 to December 1.

Arteche Mayor Roland Boie Evardone as he guested at the Network Briefing News said with its population of 17,000, it was able to vaccinate some 87.85% of its population.

He added that they employed Oplan Sitenta sa Pasko which targets at least to vaccinate 70% of the Artechehanons before Christmas.

“We are happy with the rollout of our vaccination we call locally as Oplan Sitenta sa Pasko because we aim to vaccinate 70% of our population before Christmas.”

“For the past three days, we met our target and recorded 3,213 vacinees; as of now we are at 87.85% vaccination rate from 61% last week.”

He said it was not easy, as seven of their barangays are distant or geographically isolated, but they did it.
He shared how their gimmicks worked.

“We held a raffle program for the Resbakuna program where we gave away TVs, refrigerators, bicycles, and other household items,” he said.

“We also provide them with transportation fare and free food, including the parents of the child who will be vaccinated, as well as grocery items.”

But the young mayor said this is not only up to 70%.

“We want to vaccinate 100% of the population; we will definitely extend the vaccination days, we are just conducting a survey on how many we still need to vaccinate.” (NBQ/PIA E. Samar)
